Swing is a very broad notion, referring to very different styles and genres of dancing. In the context of this website, we talk about East Coast swing or Ballroom swing. Swing is one of the five dances of American Rhythm competitive program. It is very close to contemporary Jive, but slower. It is a very popular social dance – fun to watch, fun to dance to the music of 50’s and 60’s, but without extremely fast pace and crazy acrobatic moves of the Jive style. Swing has a six beat pattern: rock step and 2 triple steps and lots of swing hip motions.
You can learn to dance the Swing either in private dance lessons or as part of our group dance classes easily accessible from North York, Scarborough, Markham and Toronto.
